WHERE YOU STAND

Player's RIGHT side, level with the chest (PEAP red mark).

WHAT YOU BRING

Nothing. First hands on the player.

WHAT YOU DO

  • Check for signs of life: breathing and carotid pulse together, no more than 10 seconds.
  • Cardiac arrest: start chest compressions at once — 5–6 cm, 100–120/min, full recoil. 30:2 until the i-gel is in, then continuous.
  • Do not stop compressions while the AED pads go on.
  • Trauma: run the primary survey (A-c-B-C-D-E) and treat what you find: trauma mask, airway adjuncts, cervical collar.
  • Take the CHEST in the log roll. If there is no team leader, you lead.

WHAT YOU SAY

If it is not your colour, do not reach in.

On the PEAP poster: Trauma: assess the player with A-c-B-C-D-E and apply treatment. Cardiac arrest: commence chest compressions.

FROM FIFA'S ROLE CARD — SUMMARY

The person at the chest (usually the player's right) — a senior clinician able to assess and treat.

In trauma

  • All structured assessments (Hands On 1, 2, 3).
  • Interventions: airway adjuncts, non-rebreathing trauma mask, cervical collar.

In a log roll

  • Take the chest, following Orange's lead.
  • Help apply the straps for extrication.

In cardiac arrest

  • Assess for signs of life.
  • Start chest compressions at once and make sure the AED has been called for.
  • Swap out after two minutes and assess for reversible causes.
  • Face mask instead of LMA: also squeeze the bag for 2 breaths after every 30 compressions.
